Rod Beadle has served with several international aid organizations as an engineer and a water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) specialist in response to natural and manmade disasters throughout the developing world. He will discuss the elements of an effective WASH response and its importance in preventing secondary health disasters in the context of several recent disasters. He will also describe the aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda which struck the Philippines in November, 2013 and the work that his WASH team performed there.

Rod Beadle is a civil engineer with over 30 years of experience in the design and construction of transportation and infrastructure projects. He has worked extensively as a humanitarian engineer on community development projects throughout the developing world with Engineering Ministries International (EMI) and Engineers Without Borders (EWB). He has served as a professional mentor for several EWB student chapters including Notre Dame’s. In 2010, he joined EMI’s disaster response team. He has been deployed as a water, sanitation, and hygiene specialist in Haiti, Pakistan, Sierra Leon, Kenya, and the Philippines.
